First Thor: Love and Thunder trailer puts Mjolnir in Jane’s mighty hands

Jane Foster has always been more than Odinson’s love interests, but you might not know that just from watching one of Marvel’s Thor movies to date – the last of which just wasn’t in it. Thor: Love & Thunder wants to fix that and then some, judging by his first trailer

For the most part, the first Love and Thunder trailer does its best to update you on what all of the Thor Odinson’s (Chris Hemsworth) have been up to in the time since he and the rest of the Avengers managed to defeat Thanos in Endgame† With the Mad Titan gone and peace largely restored, Thor has flirted with the Guardians of the Galaxy, worked his way through his depressive weight and made the most of his life as one of the last living Asgardians. It’s unclear how much time Thor will spend with the Guardians, but part of the Love and Thunder story seems to focus on Thor traveling across the universe to meet other alien races like Marvel’s Olympians.

Interestingly, Thor doesn’t seem to interact as much with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and the rest of the surviving Asgardians who have tried to rebuild their society in the town of Norweigan formerly known as Tonsberg† As Thor explores space with Korg (Taika Waititi), it seems as if Valkyrie’s new position as leader of New Asgard has unexpectedly led to a life of bureaucratic toil that keeps her from fighting. In stark contrast to Val and Thor, who both seem to have a much more relaxed approach to things, the Love and Thunder trailer also introduces an updated Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who calls Mjolnir to her in the middle of a fight. .

The last time we saw this particular Jane variant (another one recently appeared in What if, where she was voiced by Portman), she and Thor were still in love, Asgard was still standing, and Thanos hadn’t destroyed the entire universe yet. Love and Thunder clearly draws elements of Jane’s Time as Thor and the only person who can wield Mjolnir, which is an interesting bit of knowledge to bring her back into the movies. Considering that love and thunder come at a time when Marvel goes all-in on its multiversehowever, one of the great mysteries looming about this new Thor is what universe she’s originally from and how that might play a part in her future in the MCU.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
